The Firm

Straw and Pearce is a well-established law firm with offices in Loughborough and Leicester. We are a modern, progressive law firm with progression opportunities across the firm.

The Role

Straw and Pearce are a leading provider of legal services to members of the Police Federation. We have a team of seven lawyers representing Police Officers accused of criminal offences and internal disciplinary allegations throughout the Midlands, South West and North West. We also advise Police Officers during Post Incident Procedures, where they have been involved in incidents resulting in death or serious injuries to others. The work includes dealing with complex and high profile matters, often attracting media attention. The majority of the work is funded by the Police Federation and Insurance companies.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to specialise in a stimulating and rewarding area of law, working alongside highly respected Solicitors in this field. Training and ongoing guidance will be provided, making this ideally suited for a Criminal Defence Solicitor who is seeking a change.

Once you have undergone your initial training you will not be required to work in the office on a regular basis and will be able to conduct many of your duties remotely. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to travel to various Magistrates Courts, Police Stations and Police Federation offices mainly across the East Midlands region. You will also be required to cover an out of office hours rota.

In addition to allowing you to develop experience in a niche area of law, this position has plenty of scope for ongoing professional development and career progression. The essential candidate criteria are outlined below

  • Qualified Solicitor (Ideally 3 years + PQE)
  • Criminal Defence experience
  • Legal Aid Supervisor status
  • Full driving license and access to own vehicle.
