Motoring and Road Traffic

Pragmatic advice and support with a wide range of motoring and road traffic offences.

Our experienced motoring and road traffic solicitors have a strong track record in successfully handling and defending a range of traffic offences from section 172 notices to fatal collisions.

Traffic law is so technical and complex that even experts at the CPS and the police do not get it right 100% of the time. Seeking support from experienced solicitors in motoring and road traffic cases will ensure you have the best possible defence against any allegations you may be facing.

At Straw & Pearce we can help with:

  • Drink driving offences
  • Speeding and cameras
  • Notices to provide information
  • Totting up and driving disqualifications
  • Taxi and private hire
  • Dangerous and careless driving
  • Motorway offences

We successfully and regularly defend allegations of drink driving, failing to provide specimens, speeding and careless driving. We can show you how 12 points does not necessarily mean the loss of your licence; “obligatory” disqualification or endorsement can still be avoided.

Key stages

This will depend on the particular circumstances of your case, however, presuming that you have entered a guilty plea and have a date set for your hearing, at which the matter will be dealt with conclusively, your case will include the following stages:

  • Your formal instruction for us to act as your solicitors
  • Our consideration of initial disclosure, any other evidence and provision of advice
  • Explanation of the court procedure so you know what to expect on the day of your hearing
  • Explanation of the sentencing options available to the court
  • Attending court on the day and representing you – this usually needs us to attend for up to half a day as there will be some waiting time
  • Discussing the implications of the outcome with you (note that this does not include advising on your options to appeal).

Typical timeframes – how long will the process take?

Where a case is dealt with at a single hearing, the whole case is usually completed within six months from the date of the offence. However, each case is different and we cannot provide a precise timescale of how long each key stage will take or when hearings will take place as this depends on many factors such as the complexity of the matter and court listings.

We’ll be able to give you a more accurate idea of timescale when we have more details about your case.
