Police Conduct and Discipline

Specialist representation for police officers accused of professional misconduct.

Straw & Pearce is one of the largest providers of police conduct and discipline services in the UK with more than 20 years experience representing police officers. We have multiple lawyers representing officers across numerous police force areas.

Our expertise means we are uniquely positioned in this area of work and can support with:

Representing police officers accused of criminal offences – this involves representing officers in police interviews when arrested and detained at a police station and when interviewed on a voluntary basis. We can also provide representation of officers in respect of criminal cases before the magistrates court and crown court. This will include both duty related police conduct allegations and off-duty allegations.

Gross misconduct investigations and proceedings – whether these are investigated internally by the PSD or by the IOPC. This relates to duty-related and off-duty allegations.

Representing and advising police officers during a post-incident procedure – this procedure occurs immediately following an incident involving police officers where a member of the public has died or has sustained life threatening or life changing injuries. We will advise the officers in respect of the content of an initial account to be provided by them and later advise them in respect of the content of their statements regarding the incident.

Representing police officers in respect of inquest proceedings where they have been granted ‘interested person’ status – this is usually on the basis that their acts or omissions may have caused or contributed to the death of the deceased.
