Maria is a dual qualified lawyer who obtained a First Class Honours law degree and Masters degree in the UK before moving to New Zealand and qualifying as a barrister and solicitor. She was admitted to the NZ Bar in 2010 following which she practised predominantly in ACC, mental health and criminal defence at NZ’s leading ACC firm.
Maria has extensive advocacy and litigation experience and appeared regularly in the District Court and at review tribunals as well as in the High Court as lead counsel.
Maria moved back to the UK in 2015 and has since undertaken the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme which allowed her to be admitted to the roll of solicitors in England and Wales in October 2018. Maria joined the civil litigation team at Straw and Pearce in October 2018 where she deals with a variety of general civil matters, including claims against social services.
